Night Tyme Paradise

This art piece was an immense amount of fun to design and bring forth.

INspiration

For the longest I have used painting as a way to cypher through the labyrinth that is my thoughts. It was no different here. Originally the inspiration was the Floridian beaches, the stunted palm trees and the clear blue. As you see here there is no beachside only space.

If you watched the time-lapse of its production you’ll notice this final wasn’t the original idea. One of the beauties to the process of creating various artworks I surmise.

Process

The thoughts going into this was I needed a place of paradise, a secret getaway. A space no one knows about, a safe place. One where I can chew and mull over my thoughts in peace, undisturbed. Palm trees are a classic to the oasis, and paradises, inevitably it was a must. I mean, well, why not? There is also a more psychoactive aspect to it that I won’t get into here. With the palm tree, there was this desire to look out at the sea. To sit upon the gritty firmament beneath my feet, the black sand.

After trial and error, I had to take a step back. It dawned I was forcing something she did not want. She wanted to be bent and molded in a new direction. I decided to let her guide me. Gently she showed me she wanted nothing but clouds, thick fluffy, bottomless clouds. For her, I did as she asked.

The inspiration from the clouds actually came from this game I played (sometimes still do) called Clash of Clans. It is the intro when entering into your village i always admired them. There was a sense of fun yet regal air to them. They were enjoyable. Fitting for the game because it brought into the world of… well paradise.

The moon well, what can I say he got hungry. He wanted something to eat, can you seriously blame me? Who is he? Well, I don’t know. He comes and goes perhaps always when I am not looking, perhaps we will catch him. Find him and have him stop eating my moon.

In the end, although I wasn’t able to gaze upon the sea and see the firmament beneath my feet. I found a greater in being guided to see the firmament that is above me. To lay in its clouds and eat the great luminance cookie in the sky.

You may notice, that as we continue this journey together that clouds will be a recurring theme in my works. There is a reason, many dislike the rain, the gloomy temperament that it brings. Perhaps it’s the rebellious bone in me, or something… deeper more ancient. Nonetheless, It is a time of tranquility and celebration for me. Yes, both of those rather contradictory states.

I Enjoyed the balance that was achieved here not only in the clouds in the piece itself but within, being able to let go of control and to let the path be opened before me by… another aspect of me. The focal point will remain the palm tree, a symbol of paradise, a place I will continue to search for both within and without. Of course, while avoiding the law of reversed effect that is.
